Bejeweled Morning

The gathering dewdrops glisten on every blade of grass
Lighting up in the morning sun as their quantities amass
Sparkling shining and shimmering on all the different stems
Like diamonds polished and exquisitely cut into priceless little gems

Reflecting the bright coloured flowers the purples the yellows and blues
Like a millefiori paperweight with its dazzling arrangement of hues
Poppies and peonies meadowsweet and vetch forming a stunning bouquet
Each tiny bead of water like a masterpiece from the brush of Monet

Damselflies drinking the delicate drops hovering with silvery wings
A bumble of bees in the blistering sun dipping and cooling their stings
Then back to their buzzing and gathering of nectar from a heavenly scented bloom
Theres a spider spinning its intricate web between a couple of bright yellow broom

A blackbird lands in the twinkling grass and bathes in its welcoming fronds
Flapping and fluttering with fervent delight like a prisoner cut loose from his bonds
A fox wanders by scavenging for food his underbelly soaked from the dew
Then he stops and starts sniffing detecting the smell of a rabbit a rat or a shrew

The droplets disappear from the grass and the flowers as the heat starts to make its demand
A haze starts to form in the fields and the meadows and the searing hot sun bakes the land
It's a beautiful day so brilliant and bright but the loss of those jewels brings me pain
I'll return in the morning to view the display when those gems go on show once again
